***Now Celebrating Our 11th Season, October 2017***

Southern Connecticut Storm Special Hockey is dedicated to providing children from the age of five through young adult with a developmental disability the opportunity to play ice hockey. Our therapeutic program teaches skating and hockey skills, as well as gives the player the opportunity to play a team sport. Through hockey, the program emphasizes the continued development of individual life skills such as self-reliance, dependability, focus and confidence. Prior skating or hockey experience is not required.

Our season runs from October through March consisting of weekly Sunday afternoon practices, games & tournaments with Special Hockey teams in the tri-state area and beyond. We practice weekly at the Wonderland of Ice, 123 Glenwood Avenue, Bridgeport, CT on Sunday with two sheets of ice; beginners 3:30 pm - 4:20 pm and intermediate skaters from 4:20 pm - 5:15 pm. Volunteer adult coaches and teen mentors manage our practices, games and tournaments.

We offer friendships, self reliance and a team experience to our athletes and families.

Storm is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Our adult coaches & volunteers have background checks and child safety training provided by The American Special Hockey Association and Protect Youth Sports.

Come in, look around, and contact us with any questions.

If you have an interested player, mentor, or coach please contact us.

New players are always welcome!

Thank You! PFP NY Rangers Alumni

On behalf of Southern Connecticut Storm Special Hockey and our 55 players with a developmental disability, we wish to thank you all at Play For Purpose and the NY Rangers Alumni for a simply fabulous event on Saturday.

The Children we serve, as well as the numerous Parents, Coaches and Assistants that took part in your numerous fundraising efforts and the Rangers Alumni activities, all had a wonderful experience.  Not as recipients of the fundraising, but by being a part of All your efforts, was a huge growing experience for everyone, but most especially for our Children.

We noted with pride, as those who could, took part in every avenue of the fundraising process.  As you know, stepping out of the box, and doing tasks for the first time, can be very overwhelming for some of the children.  They took on tasks, such as selling 50/50 tickets to the crowd in the stands, with a very serious purpose.  It was not lost on them, that they were a very important part of PFP and the Rangers Alumni on Saturday.

We also watched in awe, as the Children, when surprised by the NY Ranger Alumni on the ice, skated a little bit faster, stood a little bit taller and all had an amazing day.  We thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.

We are very grateful you included us in your charitable activities.  Thank you,

Deb McQuilkin
